Alternatives to Plastic Sandwich Bags
Cotton and cloth Bags - Zero Plastic
These bags are often made from a variety of materials including cotton, jute, calico, hemp etc. Those with ZERO plastic, i.e., no polyester, PVA etc., are the most environmentally friendly.
Made from combination of organic cotton, sustainably harvested beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin. There are several different companies with similar products. The sheets can be molded using hand warmth and are washable and compostable.
These bags are made from paper pulp. Different brands will be wax paper, greaseproof, and state source of paper. Remember, paper comes from tree so look for sustainably sourced paper products.
Silicon - Food Grade FDA
These reusable, washable storage bags are made from food grade FDA approved silicon. Many version of these can also be used in a Microwave. Check product specifications for microwave, boiling, freezer and dishwasher.
Reusable, washable - polyester
These bags are made from Polyester, which is a petroleum based product. However, they are significantly better than the single use plastic baggies used for sandwiches and snacks.
Cloth Bags - Plastic lining
These bags are often made from a variety of materials including cotton, jute, calico, hemp etc. The plastic lining makes it easier to wash. However, the lining is petroleum based, check product specifications to ensure BPA free and the lining is Food Safe etc.
